How Telegram Encrypts Messages

Telegram uses its custom MTProto protocol. Standard cloud chats are encrypted in transit and at rest on Telegram's servers, which lets them sync everywhere. This convenience means Telegram could theoretically access cloud-chat content — a deliberate trade-off for seamless sync.
